In this modern age, we've narrowed our focus so greatly that we can only see beyond a year or two. The 'big picture' was once a grand vista like Monument Valley with blue skies and white clouds from horizon to horizon. We've become so short-sighted that we can't look up from our electronic screens of choice (whether it be a television, computer or smartphone screen) to notice what is going on around us.
There was a time when the only screen one looked at was the movie screen. The world of the cinema was tightly contained within the popcorn-scented walls of the theater. Then, television brought that imaginary world into the home. People adorned their televisions like shrines to the network gods, giving it a central place in the home. The warm fire of the hearth was replaced with the cold whine of the cathode ray tube.
Now, we carry the false reality screens with us in the name of necessity. With the advent of digital technology, the avenues of distractions only multiplied and in some ways became totally corrupted, ie. the current taste for extreme graphic violence and sex. How much more removed can we get from our authentic original nature?
